Connecting with nature,
capturing the beauty of our world, one plein air painting at a time. Hi there! I'm Nancy Corbett and I'm a plein air oil painter - meaning I paint outdoors. I'm a creative at heart, I love being in nature, and I'm inspired by the energy, beauty and spirit of the natural world. Painting outside allows me to see and feel the beauty of that moment, and I strive to share that feeling of connection to nature in my work. I use a colourful pallet, loose brush strokes and an impressionistic style. I use wood panels for my painting surface, enjoying the wood grain surface which I enhance with a colour wash. I love the outdoors and always take my oil paints on our adventures, big or small. How it all started: I started painting over 35 years ago in the Sudbury, Ontario area, being influenced by the French Impressionists and Canada’s Group of Seven. I have always been inspired by the great outdoors - northern Ontario lakes, trees, Canadian shield big rocks and fantastic skies. My parents bought me my first set of oil paints when I was a fourteen, and I was hooked on the lovely buttery texture of these paints from day one! When our girls were very young, I started painting outdoors with watercolours, which are definitely easier to travel with than oils, given how fast they dry. But I was pulled back to oils, despite the challenges of travelling with them... And the more I painted plein air - taking my portable easel with me on our family adventures - the more I loved taking the time to appreciate nature's beauty first hand. Painting plein air allows me to be mindful, reflective and whole. And it brings me joy! I strive for my paintings to express that joy and connection I feel being in nature. Where to see my work:
I have been showing and selling my work as part of the MAST (Mary Allen Studio Tour) in Waterloo, Ontario since 2011, and for many years at the Paula White Diamond art gallery + design studio's annual big ideas and square foot show. I also sell paintings through Instagram and my website. My paintings can be found by collectors throughout Ontario, Eastern and Western Canada, as well as Germany, France and the Netherlands. I am passionate about plein air painting and protecting the environment, promoting respect and love for nature, and supporting non profit organizations that do the same. |
